DAVID
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen. For by faith
David won God's approval. Through faith David
understood that the worlds were framed by the
word of God, so that things which were seen
were not made of things which appeared.
But without faith it is impossible to please God ;
for he that comes to God must believe that God
is , and that God is a Rewarder of them
that diligently seek Him.
By faith David looked for a city which has
foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
For other foundation can no man lay than
that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Faithfulness to the Lord brings success.
Disobedience brings disaster.
The Lord said,
For them that honor me, I will honour, and
they that despise me shall I lightly esteemed.
Faith works by love.
David loved the Lord with all his heart, with all
his soul, with all his mind, and with all his
strength.
And because he loved the Lord, David loved his
neighbour as himself.
Many people make the serious mistake in
thinking that the mighty of God have extraordinary
qualities of courage, and strength of body and mind.
These mighty people of God were not any different
from ordinary folks. What lift them above ordinary
men is that they have strong faith in God. They
were obedient to God's call. But they didn't do
these mighty works with human strength. It was
God who did all these wonderful works through
them.
The message that David is saying to us is,
" The Lord did it ".
David was obedient to God's call. And David was
used by God in a mighty way.
The Lord prepared David for his life-work.
David was fitted for the position to which he
was appointed by the Lord.
David was taught in the humble fields as a
shepherd. David was trained as a musician
and courtier in the palace. And in the wilderness
David gained his experiences as a guerilla chiefian.
The Lord had prepared David to be the shepherd
of His people.
DAVID IS ANNOITED KING
(1 Sam 16:1-3)
And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou
mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from
reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil,
and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite:
for I have provided me a king among his sons.
And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it,
he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an
heifer with thee, and say, I am come to
sacrifice to the LORD.
And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew
thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint
unto me him whom I name unto thee.
The Lord chooses David to succeed Saul.
The Lord sends Samuel to Bethleham to anoint David as
king.
God has rejected Saul from reigning over Israel.
Saul is Satan's man.
David is God's man.
1Sam 16:4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spake,
and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town
trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou
peaceably?
1Sam 16:5 And he said,
Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD:
sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.
And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called
them to the sacrifice.
Samuel did that which the Lord spoke, and came to
Bethleham. Samuel sanctified Jesse and his sons, and
called them to the sacrifice.
1Sam 16:6-7 And it came to pass, when they were come,
that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the
LORD's anointed is before him.
But the LORD said unto Samuel,
Look not on his countenance, or on
the height of his stature; because I have
refused him: for the LORD
seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the
outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on
the heart.
Samuel looks at this handsome tall and well-built
young man. And Samuel feels that he must be
the next king of Israel.
But the Lord told Samuel not to look at the outward
appearances. The lord has refused this young man.
The Lord sees not as man sees . Man looks on
the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on
the heart.
Don't judge a man by his looks and outward appearance.
This time God will select the man to be the king of
Israel.
1Sam 16:8-11 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass
before Samuel. And he said,
Neither hath the LORD chosen this.
Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by.
And he said, Neither hath the
LORD chosen this.
Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to
pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse,
The LORD hath not chosen these.
And Samuel said unto Jesse,
Are here all thy children? And he said,
There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he
keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse,
Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till
he come hither.
Even the father of David would not have chosen David.
Jesse looked at the outward appearance. Jesse had
appointed the humblest task to his son , David.
Samuel had important God given purpose to find a king.
He would not sit down until he accomplished it.
1Sam 16:12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy,
and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to
look to. And the LORD said,
Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
David was a handsome young man. But God did not choose
him because of that reason. God knew David's heart.
David was God's choice.
David trusted in the Lord.
David loved the Lord. David was a man after the heart of God.
1Sam 16:13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and
anointed him in the midst of his brethren:
and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that
day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
Samuel anointed David king, and the Spirit of the
Lord came upon David from that day forward.
So Samuel rose up. and went Ramah.
But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul,
and evil spirit troubled him.
David's fame as a musician brought him notice of
saul. David's music helped to relieve Saul's
depression
When evil spirit was upon Saul, David would
take a harp , and played with his hand ; so
Saul was refreshed , and was well. And the
evil spirit departed from him.
After a brief time , David returned to the
sheep herd.
DAVID IN SAUL'S COURT
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit
from the LORD troubled him.
And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from
God troubleth thee.
Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to
seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall
come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he
shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.
And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play
well, and bring him to me.
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a
son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a
mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a
comely person, and the LORD is with him.
Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David
thy son, which is with the sheep. (1Sam 16:14-19)
So Saul sent messengers to Jesse,
asking Jesse to send his son David to him
And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a
kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.
And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him
greatly; and he became his armourbearer.
And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand
before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.
And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul,
that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was
refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
(1Sam 16:20-23)
David came to Saul and entered into his service.
Saul liked David very much and chose him
to be his armour bearer.
Evil spirit does not come from God.
God removed the hedge around Saul.
When God removed His protection for
Saul, the evil spirit from the devil came upon Saul.
David took an harp, and played with his hand:
so Saul was refreshed, and was well,
and the evil spirit departed from him.
David showed that he was skillful in quieting
trouble spirits. Evil spirits does not
come from God. Evil spirits comes from the devil.
David was filled with the Holy Spirit. And his
music praised the Lord. And the holy music
chased the evil spirit away.
As the youngest of the eight sons of Jesse,
David was given the humble task of taking care
of the sheep. David learned to be patient with
his brothers when they taunted him of his
lowly task
David made use of the long hours in the sheep
pasture to practice playing his harp and
to compose psalms of praises to the Lord.
In those long hours the Lord was shaping
David to be the man that God wanted him
to be.
DAVID DEFEATS THE GIANTS
(1 Samuel 17:1-58)
Now the Philistines gathered together their armies
to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh,
which belongeth to Judah, and pitched between
Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.
And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together,
and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the
battle in array against the Philistines.
And the Philistines stood on a mountain on
the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on
the other side: and there was a valley
between them.( 1Sam 17:1-3)
The children of Israel is at war with the
Philistines. These two armies were at a
standstill. The Philistines are on one
mountain. The children of Israel are on
another mountain. There is a valley between
the two armies.
And there went out a champion out of
the camp of the Philistines,
named Goliath, of Gath, whose height
was six cubits and a span.
And he had an helmet of brass upon his head,
and he was armed with a coat of mail;
and the weight of the coat was five
thousand shekels of brass.
And he had greaves of brass upon his legs,
and a target of brass between his
shoulders.
And the staff of his spear was like a
weaver's beam; and his spear's
head weighed six hundred shekels of iron:
and one bearing a shield
went before him.
And he stood and cried unto the armies
of Israel, and said unto them,
Why are ye come out to set your battle
in array? am not I a Philistine,
and ye servants to Saul?
choose you a man for you, and let him
come down to me.(1Sam 17:4-8)
Goliath was over nine feet tall. He was a
very big man.
The Philistines wanted to put the decision of
the war in the hands of their champion ,
Goliath and one Israelite.
If he be able to fight with me, and
to kill me, then will we be your
servants: but if I prevail against him,
and kill him, then shall ye
be our servants, and serve us.
And the Philistine said, I defy the armies
of Israel this day; give me a man,
that we may fight together.
(1Sam 17:9-10)
When Saul and all Israel heard those words
of the Philistine, they were dismayed,
and greatly afraid.
(1Sam 17:11)
The devil's barking will scare those folks
who do not have God in their hearts.
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite
of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse;
and he had eight sons: and the man went
among men for an old man in the days of Saul.
And the three eldest sons of Jesse went
and followed Saul to the battle:
and the names of his three sons that went
to the battle were Eliab the firstborn,
and next unto him Abinadab, and the third
Shammah.
And David was the youngest: and the three
eldest followed Saul.
But David went and returned from Saul to
feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
And the Philistine drew near morning
and evening, and presented
himself forty days
(1Sam 17:12-16 )
When Saul went to battle , David returned
from Saul to feed his father's sheep at
Bethlehem.Feeding sheep is the humble job.
The proud men wanted to be mighty soldiers.
But when a giant, their enemy came before them,
they quickly revealed themselves to be cowards.
Three of David's brothers followed Saul to
the battle.
But they were like Saul. They were afraid of
the enemy.
And Jesse said unto David his son,
Take now for thy brethren an
ephah of this parched corn,
and these ten loaves, and run to the
camp to thy brethren;
And carry these ten cheeses unto the
captain of their thousand, and
look how thy brethren fare, and
take their pledge.
Now Saul, and they, and all the men
of Israel, were in the valley
of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
And David rose up early in the morning,
and left the sheep with a keeper,
and took, and went, as Jesse had
commanded him; and he came
to the trench, as the host was going
forth to the fight, and
shouted for the battle.
For Israel and the Philistines had
put the battle in array, army
against army.
And David left his carriage in the
hand of the keeper of the carriage,
and ran into the army, and came and
saluted his brethren.
(1Sam 17:17-22)
One day Jesse told David to take some
food to his brothers in the camp.
He was to find out how his brother were
doing and then to report it to his
father.
And David rose up early in the morning,
and left the sheep with a keeper, and
took the food , and went as Jesse had
commanded him; and he came to the trench
as the children of Israel were going forth
to fight, and shouted for the battle.
For Israel and the Philistines had lined
to battle, army against army.
David left the food with the officer in charge
of the supplies, and ran into the army, and came
and asked how they were getting on.
David took his humble task seriously.
David did what his father had commanded
him.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord:
for this is right.
Honour thy father and mother;
(which is the first commandment with promise;)
That it may be well with thee,
and thou mayest live long on the earth
(Eph 6:1-2)
David honours his father by obeying his father.
David obeys his father by doing the humble task
of keeping the sheep, by being a humble delivery boy.
David does his God given humble tasks cheerfully
and seriously.
And as he talked with them, behold,
there came up the champion, the
Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name,
out of the armies of the Philistines,
and spake according to the same words:
and David heard them.
And all the men of Israel, when they
saw the man, fled from him,
and were sore afraid.
And the men of Israel said,
Have ye seen this man that is come up?
surely to defy Israel is he come up:
and it shall be, that the man who killeth him,
the king will enrich him with great riches,
and will give him his daughter,
and make his father's house free in Israel.
And David spake to the men that stood by him,
saying, What shall be done to the man that
killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the
reproach from Israel?
for who is this uncircumcised Philistine,
that he should defy the armies of the living God?
And the people answered him after this manner,
saying, So shall it be done to the man
that killeth him.
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when
he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was
kindled against David, and he said, Why camest
thou down hither? and with whom hast thou
left those few sheep in the wilderness?
I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine
heart; for thou art come down that thou
mightest see the battle.
(1Sam 17:23-28)
And David spoke to the man that stood by
him. What shall be done to the man that
to the man that defeats this Philistine,
and takes away the reproach from Israel?
They told him what would be done for
the man who defeated this giant.
And Eliab his eldest brother heard
when David spoke unto them.
And Eliab was angry with David.
What are you doing here, David?
Who is taking care of the sheep in
the wilderness ?
And David said,
What have I now done?
Is there not a cause?
David's brother misunderstood David's
purpose for coming . He was unfairly
accused by his brothers. They thought
he was being naughty by coming to
watch the battle.
And David turned from his brother
toward another man, and asked him
the same question. And every time he
asked , he got the same answer.
And when the words were heard which
David spoke, they rehearsed them before
Saul.And Saul sent for David.
And he turned from him toward another,
and spake after the same manner:
and the people answered him again after
the former manner.
And when the words were heard which
David spake, they rehearsed
them before Saul: and he sent for him.
(1Sam 17:30-31)
And the Philistine drew near morning
and evening, and presented
himself forty days.
And all the men of Israel, when they
saw the man, fled from him,
and were sore afraid.
But David trusts in the Lord. David has
faith in the word of the Lord who says,
Fear not.
And David said to Saul,
Let no man's heart fail because of him;
thy servant will go and fight with
this Philistine.(1Sam 17:32)
David purposed in his heart that he
would love the Lord with all his heart,
with all his mind, with all his soul, and
with all his strengthen.
David allows his Lord ,the Almighty
God to fill all his mind.
David allows the Lord to fill all
his heart.
David uses all his God given strength
to serve the Lord, his God.
David's soul was filled with faith in
the Lord. David trusted in the Lord
with all his heart. David did not
rely on what he thought he knew.
David remembered the Lord in everything
he did. And the Lord shows David the
right way.
The Lord is the way, the truth, and
the life for David.
And Saul said to David,
Thou art not able to go against this
Philistine to fight with him:
for thou art but a youth, and he a
man of war from his youth.
(1Sam 17:33)
When David determined to fight the giant,
Saul tried to dissuade David.
Saul looked only at the outward appearance of
David. He did not think that David could fight
against the giant.Saul thinks like a
natural man. Saul had no idea of the
power other than that of man's strength,
or of metal helmets and coats of armour.
The Philistine giant defied and terrified
the children of Israel with his idol-god
doctrines and practices.
The giant was a mouth piece for the devil.
Out of his heart shot out wickedness.
Saul was greatly afraid of this giant.
Though Saul was God's annointed king,
and in his earlier life he had stood in
simple faith, his disobedience had
severed his spiritual power. His
anointing was gone. And Saul had become
as weak as the natural man.
All Saul could do , was to promise
the most lavish reward he could give to
the hero who would take up the
challenge of defeating blasphemy braggart
of Goliath.
Disobedience to the Lord brings trembling
and fainting in the heart. Thus Saul
was afraid.
David's experience encourages him to trust
in the Lord. David is bold in the way of
duty.
David's strong confidence in the Lord convinces
Saul to allow him to fight the Philistine
giant.
And David said unto Saul,
Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and
there came a lion, and a bear, and took
a lamb out of the flock:
And I went out after him, and smote him,
and delivered it out of his mouth:
and when he arose against me,
I caught him by his beard,
and smote him, and slew him
.
Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear:
and this uncircumcised Philistine shall
be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the
armies of the living God.
David said moreover,
The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of
the lion, and out of the paw of the bear,
He will deliver me out of
the hand of this Philistine.
And Saul said unto David, Go, and the
LORD be with thee.
David declares that as often as he shall
be exposed to danger , he will have
sufficient defense and protection in
being under the care of the Lord, his
Shepherd.
The Lord leads us into the path of righteousness
and the Lord leads us on in the path
of righteousness. The Lord leads. The
believers simply trust in the Lord and
follows his Lord.
The Lord has armed the believers to resist
resist fears which attack the believers.
The believers are not devoid of fears.
We are to overcome fears wherever the
Lord our Shepherd would lead us.
I shall fear no evil.
David's remedy against fear is to trust
the Lord with all his mind, with all his
heart, with all his soul, and with all his
strength.
The enemy waits for an opportunity to kill
in the valley. It is but a shadow of death for
David. David has well practiced the steps that
the Lord has taught him. The Lord leads. And
David follows the Lord in the path of
righteousness for the name sake of the
Lord.
The shadow of a sword will not kill. The
shadow of a serpent will not sting.
Christ has defeated death, when he died
for us on the cross. Christ has paid the
price of redeeming us with his precious
blood. And God has raised Christ from the
dead. And death is defeated.
To the sheep of Christ , death is only
a shadow. Christ has already conquer the
enemy, death. Death can not sting
the believer. God will rebuke the enemy.
The Lord will guide us with His rod ,
and sustain us with His staff,
And Saul armed David with his armour,
and he put an helmet of brass
upon his head; also he armed him
with a coat of mail.
And David girded his sword upon his armour,
and he assayed to go; for he had
not proved it.
And David said unto Saul,
I cannot go with these;
for I have not proved them.
And David put them off him.
(1Sam 17:29-32 )
Saul's heavy armour is man made.
Man's plans of salvation always fail.
Man's way leads man's destruction.
The Lord's way leads to victory.
The Lord's way leads to life.
Saul's armour does not fit David.
David rejects the heavy armour of Saul.
David follows the same path that the
Lord has taught him in the wilderness
while he was taking care of the sheep.
The Lord restoreth my soul.
In all trouble , the Lord defends David.
God sustains the believers by His almighty
power. The Lord averts from the
believers whatever is hurtful.
David is satisfied with the
all sufficient care of the Lord for
thw protection of his life.
And he took his staff in his hand,
and chose him five smooth stones
out of the brook, and put them in
a shepherd's bag which he had,
even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand:
and he drew near to the Philistine.
(1Sam 17:40-41)
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing
David expresses his satisfaction in the care
of his Lord, the Good Shepherd of the Universe,
the Redeemer, and Preserver of man.
With joy, David reflects that the Lord is
his Shepherd. David is confident in God's
grace and care.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.(Ps 23:2)
We are like sheep feeding in the green pastures,
under the care of the skillful, watchful, and
tender Shepherd of our souls.
A believer who by faith tastes the green pasture
of goodness of God in all of his enjoyments.
In his mind the believer find quiet and contentment
in the Lord. The comfort of the Holy Spirit are
the still waters by which the believers are led.
Whosoever drinks of living water of the Lord
shall not thirst.
It is a spiritual battle. The devil wanted
to make the human soul thirsty.
David will fear no evil,
for the Lord is with him ;
The Lord is my shepherd.
Your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
The Lord is David's Shepherd.
His rod and staff comforts David.
Faith in the Lord is needed for Moses and the children
of Israel to cross the Red Sea.Each person
is required to have faith in the Lord.
The Lord separates the sea for the believer one step
at a time.It requires faith in the Lord to cross the
sea safely. The Lord leads. The believer follows the
Lord.
If a person goes ahead of the Lord, he will be washed
away by the fiery sea. He will be lost because he
lacks faith. The unbelievers tries to work out his own
salvation in his own human strength. The unbeliever
steps out of the protection of the Lord. And the
unbeliever steps into the devil's valley of death.
Faith in the Lord requires all your mind,
all your soul, all your heart, and all your strength.
Peter sees Jesus walking on the water and he asks the
Lord to allow him to come to Him.
Peter is walking on water when he is focus in the Lord.
When Peter takes his eyes away from the Lord, he starts
sinking in the violent sea of fear.He has looked at the sea.
Fear enters in his mind and his heart. He fails to give
to the Lord ,all his mind and all his heart and all his
soul.And he loses his strength.
The Lord leads. And David follows.
David sees himself as a sheep of the
Lord. David stands firm in his position
as a sheep of the Lord. In all David's mind
the Lord is his Shepherd . In all David's
heart, the Lord is his Shepherd.
In all David's soul , the Lord is his
Shepherd.
He restoreth my soul
:
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for
his name's sake.(Psalm 23:3 ).
In all David's strength the
Lord is his Shepherd. In all his mind
David follows his the Lord, his Shepherd.
In David's mind ,David knows that he is
a human instrument for the Lord. David's
strength comes from the Lord.
The Lord protects David.
Then David is safe against the the fiery darts of
the devil .
Put not your trust in princes, nor in the
son of man,in whom there is no help.
(Psalm 146:3)
It is better to trust in the Lord than
to put confidence in man.(Psalm 118:9)
David was not afraid to face the giant.
The Lord is David's Shepherd. The Lord
leads David in the path of righteousness,
for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the
valley of the shadow of death, I will
fear no evil: for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
...Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave,
where is thy victory?
(1 Corinthians 15:54-55)
But thanks be to God,
which giveth us the victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brethren,
be ye stedfast, unmoveable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord,
forasmuch as ye know that your labour
is not in vain in the Lord.
(1 Corinthians 15:57-58)
Thou preparest a table before me in the
presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of
the LORD for ever. (Ps 23:4-6)
For the disobedience folks it is the
real valley of death.
Disobedience brings trembling and fainting
in the heart. Thus Saul was afraid.
David is strong in the Lord and in the
power of his might. David puts on the
whole armour of God so that he is able
to stand against the wiles of the devil>
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord,
and in the power of his might.
Put on the whole armour of God,
that ye may be able to stand against
the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of
this world, against spiritual wickedness in
high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God,
that ye may be able to withstand in the
evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt
about with truth, and having on the breastplate
of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the
gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the
fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication
in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all
perseverance and supplication for all
saints;
(Eph 6:10-18)
And the Philistine came on and
drew near unto David; and the man
that bare the shield went before him.
And when the Philistine looked about,
and saw David, he disdained him:
for he was but a youth, and ruddy,
and of a fair countenance.(1Sam 17:41-42)
The giant is overconfident in his ability
and his giant physical features. He is
puffed up with pride.
And the Philistine said unto David,
Am I a dog, that thou comest to
me with staves?
And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
(1Sam 17:43 )
Satan is talking and cursing through the
Philistine giant, and he is addressing
to God.
The Lord , our Shepherd , sees the devil
and his idol-worshippers as wild beasts
who tries to kills the believers.
And the Philistine said to David,
Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto
the fowls of the air, and to the beasts
of the field.( 1Sam 17:44 )
Come ? The devil wants David to come out
of God's protection. The Lord is the shield
for David.
There is no way for the wicked giant to
harm David, when David stays within the
protective boundary of the Lord,
the Good Shepherd .
The Lord keeps a hedge around David.
The devils can not enter the protective
area.
In the Book of Job, we are told of a hedge
that the Lord places around Job.
It is a spiritual battle.
It is the same kind of battle that Eve
engaged in, when she was defeated by
the serpent
The devil first attacks the mind of the
believer. Then the devil attacks the heart
of the believer. Then the devil attacks
the soul of the believer. Eve did not
stand firm in the word of the Lord.
Eve did not give all her mind to the Lord.
Eve was puffed up with pride in her
thinking ability. Eve made up her own
word as authority. Eve has stepped out
of the hedge that protects her. Eve has
stepped out of God's protection.
Now Eve did not give all her heart to the Lord.
Now Eve did not give all her soul to the Lord.
The fiery darts of the devil enters in Eve's mind.
The devil's fiery darts enters in Eve's heart.
The devil's fiery darts enters in Eve's soul.
Now Eve is no longer a believer. Now Eve becomes
an unbeliever.
Then said David to the Philistine,
Thou comest to me with a sword,
and with a spear, and with a shield:
but I come to thee in the name of the
LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of
Israel, whom thou hast defied.(1Sam 17:45 )
Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Your kingdom come ,
your will be done on earth
as it is done in heaven.
Holy is the name of God. The character
of God is holiness. Praise God.
Hallow be thy name.
Holy is the name of God.God almighty. Praise
the name of God.Hallow be His name.
God reveals Himself in His name.
Jehovah-Shalom. Jehovah is peace(Judges 6:24).
Jehovah-Nissi.Johovah is my banner(Ex 17:15)
Jehovah-Tsidkenus.Jehovah our righteousness(Jer 23:16)
God's name expresses the eternal,essential
,unchangeable Being of Jehovah.
El Saddai is used for the attributes of God.
Jesus is called the Light of the world.
Jesus is called the bread of life.
God's kingdom come. God's will be done,as
in heaven as on earth.
Think of all the good things about God.
And start praising God
Be thankful to God for all His wonderful gifts.
On earth the unbelievers do not hallow
God's name. On earth unbelievers do not
praise God's holy name.
On earth unbelievers do not respect the
authority of God.
On earth unbelievers do not carry out God's will.
On earth the name of the devil is honored
by the unbelievers.
On earth there is the kingdom of darkness
that is ruled by the devil. Satan is the
prince of this world . The whole world is
temporary under his evil hands.
The purpose of God is to have His will be done
on earth as it is done in heaven.
In heaven God's holy name is honored.
His holy name is hallowed and His will is done.
In heaven God's holy name is praised.
We preached the Good News of the
Lord Jesus Christ in order to deliver people
out of the evil hands of the devil. Then the
saved folks may hallow God's name and submit
themselves to God's will and authority.
This will cause God's kingdom to come to the
very earth that we now stand in.
In the beginning God charged the first man ,
Adam , to keep the garden of Eden. This
indicates that there was an enemy around.
The dominion that God gave man was the
dominion that formerly assigned to Lucifer
who later became Satan.
Man is made out of the dust of the earth.
And the serpent was cursed to eat the dust all
the days of his life. Thus man is under
the power of Satan.
The first man failed to obey God.And the
first man Adam was defeated by Satan. After his
fall from the grace of God, the first man
was a slave of the devil. So God raised up
the second man Christ to overcome Satan.
The Lord Jesus Christ redeemed us with
His precious blood.
Chrsit has done God's will . The Lord Jesus
unites all the believers who are saved
to Himself in order that they may praise God,
do God's will, and defeat Satan's kingdom.
When Jesus gave his life on the cross ,
Jesus purchased our salvation for us with
his precious blood.Jesus made
it possible for us to reap the blessings
and promise of God.
David is God's annointed king . The Lord protects
David so that Jesus can save the world. For God so
loved the world so that whoever believes in Him
shall not perish but have everlasting life.
David trusts in the Lord.
This day will the LORD deliver thee into
mine hand;
and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee;
and I will give the carcases of the host of
the Philistines this day unto the fowls of
the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth;
that all the earth may know that there is
a God in Israel.
And all this assembly shall know that
the LORD saveth not with sword and spear:
for the battle is the LORD's, and he will
give you into our hands.
(1Sam 17:46-47)
And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose,
and came and drew nigh to meet David,
that David hasted, and ran toward the army to
meet the Philistine.
And David put his hand in his bag,
and took thence a stone, and
slang it, and smote the Philistine
in his forehead, that the stone
sunk into his forehead;
and he fell upon his face to the earth.
(1Sam 17:48-49)
Thou sawest till that a stone was cut
out without hands, which smote the image
upon his feet that were of iron and clay,
and brake them to pieces.
(Daniel 2:34)
The stone is the Lord Jesus Christ.
So David prevailed over the Philistine
with a sling and with a stone, and smote
the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no
sword in the hand of David.
Therefore David ran, and stood upon
the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew
it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him,
and cut off his head therewith. And when
the Philistines saw their champion
was dead, they fled.( 1Sam 17:50-51)
See how frail life is , when a man thinks
himself best fortified with brass armour
and mighty human strength.
Let not the strong man boast in his
strength, nor in his armour.
If any person is going to boast, let
boast only of what the Lord has done.
Only the Lord is worthy to be glorified
and honoured.
Love not the world,
neither the things that are in the world.
If any man love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him.
(1 John 2:15)
We are in the world, but we are not
of the world.
For whatsoever is born of God
overcometh the world
:
and this is the victory that
overcometh the world, even our faith.
(1 John 5:4)
David's faith enables him to defeat
the giant enemy.
David has learned that he could not
use the weapons of the world to
fight the battle.
David has to use his own weapons
that the Lord has trained him to use.
The beievers need to recognize that
with faith in the Lord , they can
overcome the world.
When the Philistines saw that their champion
was dead, they fled.
The victory belongs to the Lord alone.
There is one war all the believers must be engaged.
There is one enemy mord formidable than Goliath.
This enemy , the devil still challenges the
believers.
But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
The Lord gave Daivd the victory. The Lord
delivers the giant into David's hands
The battle was the Lord's.
And the men of Israel and of Judah arose,
and shouted, and pursued the Philistines,
until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of
Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines
fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath,
and unto Ekron.
And the children of Israel returned
from chasing after the Philistines,
and they spoiled their tents.
And David took the head of the Philistine,
and brought it to Jerusalem;
but he put his armour in his tent.
(1Sam 17:52-54)
And when Saul saw David go forth against
the Philistine, he said unto Abner,
the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this
youth? And Abner said,
As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
And the king said,
Inquire thou whose son the stripling is.
And as David returned from the slaughter
of the Philistine, Abner took him,
and brought him before Saul with the
head of the Philistine in his hand.
And Saul said to him,
Whose son art thou, thou young man?
And David answered,
I am the son of thy servant Jesse
the Bethlehemite.
(1Sam 17:55-58)
